Walter Sharpe.......Trent Plaisted.......Deron Washington.....sounds exciting doesn't it?

I don't mind Joe Dumars trading out of the first round and getting 2 picks in the second round considering the players won't be gauranteed any contracts. What I do mind is....why would you use the picks on no name, average talent type players?

When Detroit drafted Walter Sharpe in the second round, players such as Chris Douglass Roberts, Mario Chalmers and DeAndre Jordan were still on the board. Instead Joe drafted a player with a rap sheet to match Dennis Rodman. He was kicked off the Mississippi State team for being continuously late to meetings and missing team flights out of town. He transferred to UAB where he played for half a year until he was suspended for being ineligible. He has also been arrested on more than one occasion and has been shot. GREAT CHOICE JOE!!!!

They followed this up by drafting Trent Plaisted, when players such as Bill Walker, Devon Hardin and Darnell Jackson were still available. Is it just me or were the Pistons just pulling names out of a hat because they know they don't want them anyway.

I'll wait and see how this pans out but for now I hate this draft. If it were my choice CDR, or Mario Chalmers would be a Piston right now.

According to Mlive.com

The Tigers announced today that they've acquired minor league pitcher Kyle Pearson from the Pittsburgh Pirates for pitcher Danny Bautista, who was designated for assignment on June 20.

Pearson, a righty and fourth-round selection in 2003, saw time with Single-A Lynchburg and Double-A Altoona this season. He earned four saves in 11 appearances with Lynchburg.

A Tigers spokesperson wasn't sure where Pearson would be assigned.

Makes Sense to Me

NBC and Notre Dame football have extended their exclusive TV contract through 2015, despite the 3-9 Fighting Irish drawing their lowest ratings last season since the network started airing their games in 1991.

Dude, Keep your Shirt on

According to the Washington Post...

The Washington Nationals have ruled that dudes who take off their shirts at their baseball games will be charged with "indecent exposure" and will be asked to put their tops back on.

Usually the guys who are disrobing in the stands are typically the last ones who should be.

You can buy anything on e-Bay...

Are you a creepy guy that still lives in your parent's basement?

Got $700 to burn?

If you answered yes to both, consider bidding on former WWE superstar Stacy Keibler's wrestling short shorts on e-Bay. I don't even want to know what the winner of the shorts will do with them.

How much could a Heath Bell eat...

How much wood could a Heath Bell eat, if a Heath Bell could eat wood?

Did you see the Padres trot this guy out to the mound on Sunday against the Tigers?

They have him listed at 6'3" 240lbs, he looks closer to 280-290! How is a professional baseball player so out of shape???

Melo not going to Detroit?

It's been no secret that the Denver Nuggets were recently contacted by the Detroit Pistons and the two clubs had several conversations about a deal involving sending Melo to Detroit for Billups and Tayshaun. The Nuggets are declining that offer and have instead proposed a deal involving Allen Iverson or a package built around Marcus Camby. But the Pistons are only interested in Anthony.

Anthony's agent has confirmed with Nuggets' brass that they are not interested in trading Carmelo.

Erin Andrews enjoys Cubs baseball and Yellow

Erin Andrews was at Wrigley Field last night. As I look at this picture, two questions come to mind:
1. Does Alan Trammell really look good in Cubbie pinstriping?

2. Which player is Tram about to greet on the field?

Tiger Stadium set for Demolition

The Detroit Economic Growth Corp. has finalized a contract to knock down Tigers Stadium, former home of the Detroit Tigers. The group intends to sell the old stadium for scrap. The historic stadium has been deserted since the Tigers moved to Comerica Park in 1999.

Pistons - Nuggets Trade in the Works?

CNNSI.com reports the below would make the most sense financially as a Pistons - Nuggets trade...

The Nuggets would send Carmelo Anthony, Marcus Camby, Kenyon Martin and Chucky Atkins to the Pistons for Chauncey Billups, Tayshaun Prince, Rasheed Wallace and Detroit's 1st round pick.

I don't know how I feel about this. Melo would be an improvement over Tayshaun. Camby & Martin would be the shot blocking and rebounding that the Pistons have been lacking since Ben left....but letting Chauncey go would hurt us, in that I'm not sure Stuckey is not ready to take over the reigns yet and that would leave us with Chucky Atkins or Lindsay Hunter.

In the end though, I would make this trade hoping that Joe could bring in a free agent starting point guard in the offseason. The Pistons need a dramatic shake up.

Grizzlies Add to Great Recruiting Class

From OUgrizzlies.com

The Oakland University men's basketball team has made yet another addition to its recruiting class, coach Greg Kampe announced Tuesday, as Matt Samuels has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Golden Grizzlies in the 2008-09 season. The addition of Samuels rounds out arguably the top recruiting class in school history.

"We're extremely excited about Matt joining our program," said Kampe. "Our biggest remaining need in recruiting was the point guard position. Matt is a pure point with great speed and a Derick Nelson-type body, and can score the ball. I also think he can be a great defender because of his outstanding strength and quickness."

Samuels, a 6-0 Washington, D.C. native, averaged 22 points and five assists per game as a senior at Coastal Christian Academy in Virginia Beach, Va. Samuels played for the prestigious Richmond Squires AAU team and was heavily recruited, committing to Wyoming before a coaching change prompted Samuels to re-open his recruitment.

Samuels joins early signees Blake Cushingberry, who was listed as the sixth-best player in the state of Michigan by BankHoops.com and No. 128 nationally by ESPN.com as a shooting guard; Drew Maynard, who was ranked as the third-best player in the state of Michigan by BankHoops.com and the 36th-best shooting guard in the nation by ESPN.com, in addition to being a two-time all-league, all-area, and Oakland Press Dream Team member as well as a third-team all-state honor; and Jay Thames, who was ranked as the 36th-best power forward in the country by ESPN.com and the 10th-best player in the state by BankHoops.com, earning all-state, all-area, and all-conference honors along the way.

OU Grizzlies Land Huge Recruit...Literally

From OUgrizzlies.com

Oakland University men's basketball team continues to add to its already highly-touted 2008-09 recruiting class as Ilija Milutinovic (7-0, 255) has signed to play for the Golden Grizzlies next season. The recruiting class is now up to five and has talented players at every position.

"Not only is this a significant recruit because not only is he potentially a great player, but if it works out for him at Oakland University then it opens the door for us to recruit internationally," said OU Coach Greg Kampe. "There is a lot of hype with him and we have never had this much hype about a recruit before. He turned down six figures to play professionally in Serbia because he wants to go to the NBA.

"He is no doubt the most skilled big man Oakland has ever gotten, but at the same time that does not make you a great player. He still has a lot to learn and a lot to do. Ilija has decided to come to school and work at his game and he has the potential to be the best player to ever play at our level."

At 255 pounds, Milutinovic has the size to go along with the height. He was a member of the Serbia and Montenegro's Under-18 National Team and competed in the 2006 Albert Schweitzer Tournament, in Mannheim, Germany (one of the top tournaments for U-18 players), in which team came in third. He averaged 17 points, eight rebounds and two blocks and took part in the 2006 ABCD Camp in Teaneck, N.J.

Trades, Draft, Pistons Talk...

There are many possibilities when it comes to changing the Pistons' roster this off-season.  Here are a few quick thoughts on what I could see happening, or maybe what I'm sub-consciously hoping happens:

1.  Rip and Tay for Tracy McGrady.  T-Mac hasn't been past the first round of the playoffs, he's an annual All-Star, and he's a proven scorer.  Rodney Stuckey can fill in where Rip would leave a void, and fill in nicely.  We'd miss out on Tayshaun's defense a bit, but if we get a big man in the draft who can block shots, that would make up for it.  McGrady would be sweet in a Piston's uniform.

2.  Sheed for any decent post player and a couple draft picks.  It's been noted that Sheed's contract will be tough to trade, but with the young players in our system stepping up, I think we can afford to dump his attitude for something close to that.

3.  Draft a big man or two.  Our guards are set with Chauncey/Rip/Stuckey giving us three great threats.  We still don't have a legitimate Center on our roster.  Sheed is a guard playing in a PF's body, McDyess is getting older every game, and Ratliff will probably be gone after this season.  Get a big man that can post up and block shots.

That would be suuuuuper...
